Saturday night was Mechoui night. Here are Simon and my dad tucking in to course number 2. The locals/villagers get together and talk and eat and drink and dance and sing and generally celebrate summer. Much red wine was consumed. We rolled home about 2am. The music didn't stop 'til 4!! I had "a bit of a head" on Sunday morning.

* The sauté potatoes had been tossed (whilst still sizzling) with fresh persillade - finely minced garlic and flat leaf parsley - the heat of the potatoes had cooked the garlic. Writing about the mixture of flavours is making me dribble onto the keys.

I am going away on holiday on Saturday morning. I have to get up at daft o'clock to catch my plane to Gerona. Knowing full well that this week is going to be almost as crazy as last week I figured that I'd get a head start on packing the tiny suitcase* that Ryanair will allow me to take in the cabin of the plane. It's not all ironed yet but at least it's in one place.
And after that I figured I'd sort out my underwear drawer - and now I realise that I am at rock bottom. That's right folks ... photos of my underwear on the Internet. Thank the lord I'm not in it!!

Well, we're home, only 24 hours late - thanks in the main to French fishermen and partly to Sea France. Now don't get me wrong I'm never happy to see the end of a holiday BUT I hate to be fannied about because fishing boats are blocking the harbour over fishing quotas! And of course it wasn't only us waiting - hundreds of lorry drivers were left sitting in their wagons on the hard shoulders of the motorways and on the harbour sides. Glad to be home.

We've been lumberjacking today. Cutting down a pine tree that was blocking light/the view. It was also a favourite with processional caterpillars ~ so instead of avoiding the caterpillars before they stung/burning the nests ... the tree is gone and the view is better. AND I have wooden circles and pine cones for school! Starts singing "I'm a lumberjack and I'm ok!"

I spend most of my lunchtimes with the challenging children, calm little gatherings away from the bulk of pupils so that they can go back into the class and concentrate for the afternoon. Last week I got them started on some simple embroidery stitches on binka - yep even the lads - it's non threatening, you get quick results and it's good for fine motor skills. So of course I was made to have a go too ;o)
They were very proud of themselves/their results.

I went on a very boring - but necessary - training course this morning about child protection. When I say boring please, please, please don't think that I don't take child neglect and abuse very seriously indeed it's the fact that we get Acts and Laws and dates quoted at us until the cows come home. The poker table ready and waiting. We played, we ate*, I made a profit of 70p over the night's cards. I know 70p is nothing to write home about BUT I look at it this way - I started the night with a fiver and made 14% profit ... if I had started with £5000 ... that would have been £5700 - enough profit for a pair of Jimmy Choos!!

* The food - poker night is very much snacks night. I prepared a huge dish of crudites (cucumber, carrot, peppers, baby corn-on-the-cob & mange tout) and opened some shop bought houmous, made some tempura style onion rings with salsa and sour cream, coated some tiny sausages in honey and mustard and finished them off in the oven, heated some pitta bread for scooping and served chilli olives, dolmades and Lindt chocolate biscuits on the side. It all went ;o)

As you can see from this gap where 75/365 and 76/365 should be & the mismatched order of photos in my Flickr photostream and the late posting I am having technical problems. Technical problems of the kind where my phone is telling me that my memory card is unavailable and even though I can see the aforementioned photos on my phone there is no way - not by email, not via the computer cable, not even by text ... NO WAY - I can get the photos off the f%$@ing camera!!

You'll just have to believe me that the 2 photos - my father's flask before their early morning journey back to France & my pile of "fat" clothes that have now been banished to Oxfam* would have been worth seeing!

Simon* and I went to the farmer's market in Rochester this morning and bought/brought home lots of goodies - many of which we have already eaten! We bought rare breed pork sausages, duck rilettes (sp?), lime and chilli jelly and organic Jerusalem artichokes. The sausages were gorgeous in baguettes at lunchtime and I've just HAD to try out a bit of the rilettes - delish!! Snipped and snapped on my Nokia E71.

*Simon had to be dragged there kicking and screaming BUT has already said we need to go back next month!!
