One of the many reasons why Simon and I wont be having a pool - leaves + warm weather = algae = cloudy water ... work, work, work!

Simon's brother and his partner are coming to dinner on Tuesday eve. I'm starting the Boeuf Bourginonne ... Mum has a packet of beef with the recipe on OR a Coleman's spice mix ~ I think I am going to try it from scratch. Photos of the finished article to follow.

Saturday night was Mechoui night. Here are Simon and my dad tucking in to course number 2. The locals/villagers get together and talk and eat and drink and dance and sing and generally celebrate summer. Much red wine was consumed. We rolled home about 2am. The music didn't stop 'til 4!! I had "a bit of a head" on Sunday morning.

Menu
Melon au porto
Charcuterie - pâté de campagne, Bayonne ham and Rosette de Lyon
Lamb with sauté potatoes*
Cabecou
Apple / Plum Flan
Du café
* The sauté potatoes had been tossed (whilst still sizzling) with fresh persillade - finely minced garlic and flat leaf parsley - the heat of the potatoes had cooked the garlic. Writing about the mixture of flavours is making me dribble onto the keys.
A tangled mess - party lights dumped in a bag ... hours later they were finally sorted/straightened out! Now, they just need to be draped around the garden ready to "partay"!

Tents are pitched for party goers to crash - hot and tiring BUT done. Bagsy the one with the pool view.

A visit to the farmer's market produced - lettuce (2 for 1€50 ... type/name unknown), fat elephant shallots, heirloom tomatoes and delicious, crunchy, sweet, green peppers. Local farmers, local salad - air miles = 0 ... I walked there and back!

Relaxation pose #226 - the "just let me read my book please!"

We finally arrived after a 14 hour journey from hell. Stuck in traffic in Paris, between Paris and Orleans and finally north of Bordeaux. This was what I needed, well that and a gin!
